Vision<\/h3>\n

For the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies (CoE) to be a leader in addressing systemic inequalities that exist in academia, including in the workplace and in research practice. Members of the CoE community acknowledge and engage in efforts to redress these inequalities. We do so because we recognise that this is the ethical thing to do, and because it enhances the CoE community\u2019s wellbeing and supports innovative and impactful research.<\/p>\n

Mission<\/h3>\n

To achieve our vision, the JEDI Committee will strive to advance:<\/p>\n

Justice<\/strong>, by dismantling systemic barriers to equal opportunities and resources for all.<\/p>\n

Equity<\/strong>, by ensuring that everyone has access to the same opportunities.<\/p>\n

Diversity<\/strong>, by recognising and supporting differences among us based on what we experience and based on elements of our identity (e.g. gender, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic background).<\/p>\n

Inclusion<\/strong>, by ensuring and maintaining a feeling of inclusiveness and safety for all members of the CoE community, and by valuing and amplifying the voices of those who experience barriers based on their identities.<\/p>\n

Objectives<\/h3>\n

We will work toward tangible, evidence-based changes to advance JEDI in the CoE in four key areas:<\/p>\n

How we work<\/strong>: Strengthen understanding and implementation of inclusive and just research practices within the CoE and in the places where we do our research.<\/p>\n

Pipeline, recruitment, and retention<\/strong>: Enact measures to ensure and support transparency and diversity in student and staff recruitment and retention (including internships), as well as policies and practices to support transparency and diversity at all levels of employment from casual to senior levels.<\/p>\n

Leadership<\/strong>: Redress imbalances in diversity in leadership positions.<\/p>\n

Values, culture, image, and reputation<\/strong>: Ensure JEDI are embedded in, and celebrated as part of the Centre\u2019s core values and culture, image, and reputation. This includes ensuring, and maintaining, a feeling of inclusiveness and safety for all members of the CoE community.<\/p>\n
