ABSTRACT:

Sustainable natural resources management across the land-sea interface requires collaboration among people working in terrestrial, freshwater, estuarine, and marine ecosystems, and across many sectors of society including government, business, research, non-governmental organisations, and others. Social network analysis can provide insights into the relationships among these diverse participants, and suggest opportunities for new collaborations that might lead to more effective outcomes. I will talk about my background in regional conservation planning in western North America, describe a new paired study of coastal conservation planning in Queensland and Oregon, and present preliminary results of a social network analysis for a portion of the Oregon coast.
