From 2005 to 2022, the main node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies was headquartered at James Cook University in Townsville, Queensland (Australia)
Ed moved to Townsville from Sydney in 2005, pursuing a passion for all things involving the water. During his time in Townsville, he worked as a Dive Instructor, Aquarist at the ReefHQ Aquarium, and started his BSci at JCU. In 2013, he completed his Honours degree in Environmental Science, researching the coral communities on submerged reefs on the Great Barrier Reef. In 2014 he began his PhD at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies on an AIMS@JCU PhD scholarship under the supervision of Prof. Andrew Baird, Dr. Tom Bridge, Prof Geoff Jones, and Dr. Julian Caley. His PhD research focuses on the depth distribution patterns of reef-building corals.
