The popular media has become infatuated with a small number of self-styled “contrarian” scientists who challenge the scientific consensus relevant to public policy issues, such as effects of climate change on coral reefs. In this lecture, I will present and explain the evidence for adverse human impacts on coral reefs, with a particular focus on the role played by mathematical and computer models in such assessments.
