From 2005 to 2022, the main node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies was headquartered at James Cook University in Townsville, Queensland (Australia)
Kerrie is Australian and after several other careers, decided it was time to study her passion – the ocean. She completed her Marine Science and Management Degree as a distance education student at Southern Cross University in Lismore. Her Honours year was undertaken at The University of Queensland (UQ) in Brisbane under the supervision of Prof. John Pandolfi, looking at the changes over time in recreational fishing catch in Moreton Bay. This led into her PhD which will: assess the efficacy of marine policy in the management of marine protected areas; evaluate the efficacy of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park rezoning in achieving its stated intent, and; evaluate whether marine protected areas are adequately representing protected species. Supervisors for her PhD are Prof. John Pandolfi and Prof. Bob Pressey (JCU).
