From 2005 to 2022, the main node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies was headquartered at James Cook University in Townsville, Queensland (Australia)
Nicolas grew up in Monaco, where he developed a passion for the ocean through sailing, surfing, and scuba diving. He completed his BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 2011, before returning to Monaco for a year to work a research assistant at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Radioecology Laboratory. He then moved to Los Angeles in 2012 to complete a master’s degree at California State University, Northridge, studying the effects of ocean acidification on species interactions among corals under the supervision of Dr. Peter Edmunds. Following graduation from his master’s in 2015, Nicolas moved to Australia to start a PhD in the Marine Spatial Ecology Lab at The University of Queensland under the supervision of Dr. Peter Mumby. His research focuses on the interactive effects of physical and biological processes on coral settlement and post-settlement survival.
