Vanessa Haller-Bull

Research Associate

University of Queensland

Background:

Vanessa Haller grew up more than 600km away from the nearest salt water in Germany. 9 year old Vanessa, first encountered her love for oceans and more specifically coral reefs during her family holiday in Egypt where she begged her parents to let her join a dive course.

Since then she has completed her undergraduate and Honours degree at JCU working with Prof. Geoffrey Jones in Paua New Guinea focusing on surgeonfish ecology.

PhD Direction:

While previously focusing on ecology, Vanessa’s PhD is taken a more theoretical perspective. She will investigate effective management on ecosystems under multiple threats in a variety of systems. Furthermore she will compare the techniques used in these systems focusing on levels of uncertainty and management complexity.
