Abstract. Creating and maintaining an online profile is integral to a successful research career. However, choosing the online tools that are right for you is often a confusing and intimidating process. In this seminar and panel discussion, we provide information on the range of online tools available to researchers, including bibliographic databases and identifiers (e.g. Google Scholar, ORCID), collaborative project spaces, blogs and microblogs (e.g. Twitter), and professional networking sites (e.g. ResearchGate). We will also provide advice on choosing the right tools to help you build an online profile and understand altmetrics scores that meet your professional goals.
Biography. Alana Grech joined the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies as Assistant Director in late 2016. Prior to her current position, she worked as a senior lecturer in spatial information science at Macquarie University and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the ARC Centre. Jodie Rummer is an Associate Professor at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. After a post-doctoral fellowship in Hong Kong, Jodie joined the ARC Centre to apply her broad research interests in conservation physiology to coral reefs. Jackie Wolstenholme is the Research Liaison Librarian at James Cook University.
