Donny Warren was born and raised in Iowa, USA surrounded by corn fields as far as the eye can see. His passion for the aquatic world stems from his involvement in competitive swimming and because he wasn’t cut out for politics. Donny graduated from The University of Iowa in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with Honours and an emphasis on evolution. He completed his honours project with Prof Maurine Neiman at Iowa where he studied how population density affected reproduction output in a freshwater mud snail native to New Zealand. After a short 2 month break, he moved to Townsville, Australia to pursue his PhD at JCU in marine biology under the supervision of Prof Mark McCormick, Prof Philip Munday, and Jennifer Donelson. His thesis addressed the immediate and long-term effects of anthropogenic influence on coral reef fish behaviour. Specifically, Donny was interested in studying how reef fish aggression changes after short- and long-term exposure to elevated temperature.
