Tim Quimpo

Tim Quimpo

James Cook University, Townsville

Tim Quimpo grew up in the archipelagic country of the Philippines and as such developed a fascination for the ocean at an early age. He completed an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology at his hometown in the southern Philippines where his short project investigated the effects of Marine Protected Areas on grouper assemblages. Pursuing his interest in fish, Tim moved to the capital region of the Philippines further north and did his master’s in Marine Science where he looked at the effects of reef fish predation on coral larvae and fragments. Now, for his PhD, Tim is interested in looking at how reef fish herbivory (e.g., species composition, feeding rates and physiological condition) change from shallow (< 30 m) to mesophotic reefs (30 to 150 m) to potentially shed light on the importance or lack thereof herbivory with increasing depths. Throughout his PhD, Tim will be supervised by Prof Andrew Hoey and Prof Morgan Pratchett.
