Transformations in coral reef social-ecological systems

When

31 Oct - 4 Nov 2022

location
James Cook University
Presenter
Michele Barnes & Josh Cinner

The goal of this legacy workshop is to bring together the deep historical knowledge and experience of past and present centre researchers/frequent collaborators from across the social and ecological sciences to: (1) synthesize the social and ecological transformations we have seen in coral reef ecosystems, e.g., ecological phase shifts, shifts in governance, gender and food systems transformations, etc., (2) draw out the critical social-ecological linkages/feedbacks underpinning these transformations (i.e., whether and how these different social and ecological transformations are inherently linked and interdependent), and finally (3) develop an interdisciplinary perspective that draws on lessons learned to shed light on how we might foster/guide just transformations in coral reefs toward sustainability.
